How To Know When You Should Wear Diapers To Bed

A surprised adult man waking up to a wet bed.

At the time of writing this I’m 35 years old and I’ve been a bedwetter for about 20 years now. I’ve met many people who wet the bed over the years and know how difficult it can be for some people to overcome. Beyond just this, I have met many people with all sorts of other issues that drive them to decide to wear diapers to bed.

On average, people need to wear diapers to bed when they have bedwetting and incontinence issues that they have had no success in overcoming. Others need to wear diapers to bed for overactive bladder symptoms that constantly prevent them from getting a good night’s rest.

While these are the most common reasons that people end up using adult diapers for their nighttime needs they are by no means the only ones. To know when you should decide to take this step yourself let’s look at these reasons more closely.

8 Signs You Should be Wearing Adult Diapers to Bed

There is no shame in wearing an adult diaper to manage any nighttime issues you may be having.

For many people out there, it can be quite an upsetting thing to suddenly start wetting the bed. It doesn’t really matter what age you are, it’s one of those things that you immediately feel embarrassed and ashamed about.

Your most immediate reflex might be to ignore it and write it off as a singular event. That is until it happens again.

The first sign you should probably be wearing diapers to bed is repeated and frequent accidents. You should of course not ignore this any further and see a doctor right away but you should also take the necessary steps to mitigate the issue too.

One reason many opt to start using diapers is to avoid having to do laundry every time an accident occurs. Not only does wearing a diaper save you from having to do a lot of laundry but it also saves your mattress too.

Besides saving you from having to start every day by doing dirty laundry it also saves you from having to start your day waking up to cold wet sheets. I don’t know about you but I’m all about optimizing my morning and starting my day off right.

When I was waking up to cold wet sheets every morning this was not a great way to start my day. This is doubly true if you share your bed with someone else!

That brings me to my next reason you should be wearing a diaper to bed is if you’re having these sorts of issues and you share your bed with a partner. You at least owe it to your partner to use some protection.

While some might see needing to wear diapers as juvenile I say wearing a diaper to bed is quite literally the adult and responsible thing to do.

Is It Okay to Sleep in a Wet Adult Diaper All Night?

Adult diapers are designed with all sorts of uses in mind. While many people out there like myself need these products for daytime use, daytime needs and nighttime needs can be drastically different.

The concerns we have at certain times of the day while doing certain things can alter our priorities of what we need from our protection the most.

The good news is that those responsible for engineering adult diapers these days are trained to keep these things in mind.

Overnight adult diapers are engineered to wick the moisture away from the skin rapidly and contain it for a minimum of 8 hours. This helps to ensure that your skin will remain as protected as your bed while enabling you to get a good night’s rest.

In fact, those of us that need to wear diapers during the day to tend to gravitate to these longer lasting diapers. It’s not ideal to need to change your diaper every couple of hours when you’re trying to get your work done.

If you need to know more about daytime diapers check out this page here where I cover a whole bunch of options with varying levels of absorbency AND discretion!

One caveat to this is that if you’re incontinent and need to wear diapers during the day you definitely want to make sure that you are changing into a dry diaper before going to bed at night.

I’ve fallen asleep many times in a partially used diaper only to wake up in the middle of the night having leaked all over the place. Going to bed in an already wet diaper will usually lead to leaking and other times lead to developing a rash.

So while you don’t want to go to sleep in an already wet diaper it is perfectly fine to sleep in a wet diaper that has been wet throughout the night.
